SUSTAINABLE IS MULTIPLE

Acting sustainably is vital nowadays, and for us it means: taking account of future generations when consuming raw materials and other treasures of the earth. Not consuming more than can grow back. And taking social and economic responsibility in addition to ecological responsibility. At Freeze-Dry Foods, we have therefore based our sustainability policy for our freeze dried and air dried ingredients on three pillars:

LEVERAGING CAPABILITIES

We see it as our job to provide the food industry with the perfect ingredients from all over the world. To do this, we bring together the best. Farmers around the globe contribute their resources for cultivation. We at Freeze-Dry Foods contribute product and quality know-how. And the food industry focuses on production. If everyone can contribute their skills in this way, it is a sustainable process that benefits everyone.

LIVING
FAIRNESS

When food producers receive a fair wage, this not only prevents exploitation. It also creates sustainability. Social cohesion, organic farming across the board and international justice in economic activity are all part of this for us. This is one reason why we are, among others, a member of SEDEX and SMETA certified, which stands for responsible and ethical business practices in global supply chains.

SHARING
KNOWLEDGE

When you share your knowledge with others, you behave in a sustainable way. Because in this way, production and cultivation can be improved. This saves not only raw materials and other resources, but also climate-damaging CO². We pursue this approach consistently and stand firmly by our suppliers' side with decades of expertise in product cultivation and processing. The goal is ingredients that are in harmony with people and nature.

For us at Freeze-Dry Foods at the head office in Greven, one thing is clear: We want to become more and more sustainable, in the company, in the processes and with our products.

That's why we have set goals in terms of climate and the environment. Some we achieve in the short term, others step by step with long-term commitment.

At the same time, we know that as a food-producing company we will always leave a footprint - our path is to steadily reduce this footprint with many individual measures. Read some examples here.

LED lights save electricity for more sustainability at Freeze-Dry Foods.

Reusing cardboard boxes is sustainable and conserves resources.

Goal: improve packaging

We have already achieved this:

98% of our packaging material is completely recyclable, all cardboard boxes and trays are FSC-certified and consist of at least 70% recycled paper. We reuse transport packaging by arrangement, and some of the outer cartons are returned to the supplier. Cardboard adhesive tape changed from plastic to paper. New wrapping film with 40% PIR content (post-industrial recyclate) and 3my less thickness saves around 14,500 kg/year of CO² per year. This corresponds to the average CO² emissions of 6 cars per year. Defective pallets are not disposed of, but repaired or put to good use.

Freeze-Dry Foods has obsolete business paper bound into writing pads so that it is not disposed of but reused in a meaningful way.

Goal: paperless office

We have already achieved this:

Every year we save over 170 kg of paper, the equivalent of 3 football fields laid out with A4 sheets. In return, less wood is used, trees are spared, waste is saved and the water consumption that goes into paper production is also reduced: it saves over 100 full bathtubs full. When we print, we only print on 100% recycled paper. We no longer use printed business paper and continue to use outdated bound paper to make writing pads for our employees.

Goal: Designing sustainable trade fair stands

We have already achieved this:

It is important to us that our exhibition stands can be used several times. Trade fair graphics, walls, floors and furniture are reused from trade fair to trade fair, as are our magnetic boxes and jars with our products - which are of course fresh every time ;-)

We consciously accept the fact that we don't show new graphics or set up new presentation furniture at every trade fair. But we think we can do without the big show effect, for the sake of the environment.

Our commitment stands out. It is not for nothing that we have been honoured with the GOLD Award for sustainable exhibition stands.
